Catch Up & Read
The non-profit known as Catch Up & Read has been on a mission to change the glaring reality that nearly 85 percent of DISD fourth graders do not read at their grade level – which has directly led to alarming dropout rates.
Targeting children before they reach third grade, this groundbreaking program is empowering elementary school faculties and specifically teachers, with proven literacy-based techniques that help them teach the kids everything from proper hydration and nutrition to giving them individual tutoring to involving them in interactive group activities; all of it to accelerate learning.
This year, the Cotton Bowl Foundation has pledged $100,000 to Catch Up & Read. The College Football Playoff Foundation matched the grant adding another $100,000 that will allow for Catch Up & Read to fund their program at four DISD elementary schools next year.
“What I’m most proud of is that this gift reflects our confidence and support in all the teachers who are the real heroes in schools every day. They’re the ones who are committed to our next generation and they care about their success.”
